Happy 2023 everyone!

Year in Review

Last year was busy, pretty chaotic and a wild ride in general. Building a company is never a clear straight line and we had our fair share of steps and resets. That said, we were able to grow our core team as well as build and reinforce critical partnerships across both academia and industry.

Capital was abundantly available in the market at the start of the year and completely gone by the end, which does not impact us directly but has a massive impact on the broader ecosystem. Last year saw the launch and first images of the James Webb Space Telescope (amazing stuff, go find those if you haven’t already), the highest launch volume in history (although for marginally higher unit cost) and the initial folding or pivots of several space companies that had been running hard but did not make it.

Given the scale and complexity of what we’re trying to solve, we feel a lot better about both our domain knowledge and experience as well as the decisions we’ve made so far.

Looking at the ‘First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win’ spectrum, we’ve progressed out of the ‘being ignored’ phase and are solidly in the ‘being laughed at’ phase… 🙂
